Des Moore
D.O.B.: 1955 – UK
Wave Craft: Anything will do but I would prefer to stand please
Des caught his first waves in the halcyon Summer of 1969 as part of the young and excitable Porthcawl crew of the time and was even one of the founding members of the fledgling Welsh Coast Surf Club and enthusiastic supporter of (and contributor to) its then magazine, ‘Lineup’. Surfing previously unsurfed spots were a daily adventure at that time and became a difficult habit to break, leading to many adventurous surf trips over the next 3 decades, including overseas trips to previously unsurfed Carribean islands, really early trips to an undiscovered Biarritz (and the old La Barre and the unheard of Mundaka) even experiencing Porthleven as a secret spot! The beautiful Constantine Bay has been home since the early 70’s from where he has been involved in the local surf club (once the Trevose Head Boardriders, now the Bullrock Boardriders), assisted in the organisation of professional and amateur contests, judged many contests at home and overseas (even won the (very) odd one) and continues to contribute to various surf journals. Having carved a sixteen year career in finance and property he established Constantine Bay Surf Store in 1993, a true surfers’ surf shop, where he is helped by his kids, Cheyne, Adam and Carly and supported by his wife Donna who is a teacher.

Plant maintains an active international exhibition schedule. Recent commissions/residencies in Australia, Bermuda, Scotland, Indonesia and throughout Europe ensure his work is featured extensively across International and National Media: the Guardian, Zeit, Canal+ TV, thisiscolossal, My Modern Met Blog Times etc. Currently he has a solo painting show at Royal Cornwall Museum (until July 2016), as well as a much anticipated crowd funded drawing trip to Iceland with adventure photographer Tim Nunn.

He has worked as a visiting lecturer at many arts institutions and universities across the world, and has been involved in several workshops and mentoring schemes for emerging artists. His work has been shown at The ICA London, Riverside, Opera Australia, Ocean Film Festival, Cornwall Art Biennale etc.

Tony Plant is a ‘life long surfer” and surf photographer. He often works with NGO’s The Plastic Project and Surfers Against Sewage.
